Learn how you can prevent cruelty to animals

Many people don't even realize just how badly animals are treated. And when they do, they often wonder how they can help. Here are a few tips to give you an idea about what you can do to prevent and stop cruelty to animals.

The ultimate solution

It is very important to understand that the ultimate solution to stop the suffering of animals is to remedy the cause, not the problem. We must focus on putting an end to puppy mills by not purchasing dogs from pet stores or online and by spaying and neutering dogs to reduce the number of stray dogs and help animal shelters. No one has more power to fight puppy mills than the consumer.

Most people don't ask pet stores where their puppies are from. If they do, they are told that the puppies are from "ABC Kennel" which is another name for "Just Another Cruel Puppy Mill.” Even if the kennel is registered, it is likely to be a puppy mill.

If you haven't heard of puppy mills or aren't quite sure what they are, here are some graphic images returned by a search for "puppy mills" on Google. Warning: these images are shocking and are not suitable for children.

What you can do to stop the suffering of dogs

  • Don't buy dogs from pet stores or on the Internet. Your purchase only supports puppy mills. Adopted dogs are the most grateful animals on earth. Don't support puppy mill cruelty.
  • If you do decide to buy a dog instead of adopting, always visit the breeder in person to see the conditions in which the dogs are bred.
  • Talk to politicians and lobby to change the laws to make puppy mills illegal. The pet industry has great power and influence in politics, but together we can change laws!
  • Spread the word: tell your friends, family, co-workers and schoolmates about this website and the concept of giving up material gifts to help animals in need instead. I authorize anyone to use the contents of this website with the purpuse of raising awareness about animal cruelty and encouraging people to give up monetary gifts in exchange for donations to organizations that help animals.
  • Start a chain email raising awareness and educating people about cruelty to animals, asking them to pass the message along to their friends. If jokes, funny pictures, and word games can reach millions of people through chain emails, then so can this website. Chain emails are very effective - they can reach millions of people in a couple of days. Use this sample email to start an email campaign to raise awareness and help animals.
  • Don't believe everything you are told. Always do lots of research to find out what the truth is when it comes to isses about dog abuse. Always remember that it is in the best interest of this multi-billion-dollar industry to make you believe that every dog is happy and healty - this way their business makes money. Don't get brainwashed. Find out what really is happening to dogs. You can find links to online resources providing information about this merciless industry.
  • Donate money to pet rescue groups to help the dedicated voluneers and pets in need.
  • Consider voluneering at your local animal shelter a few hours every now and then. They will appreciate any help and once you see a pair of grateful eyes looking at you in the shelter you will realize just how good you are and how much dogs appreciate every minute of your time.
  • If you have old towels, gift cards to pet stores, a bag of treats, or an old carrier crate, the shelters will thank you for them.
  • Put up a few simple flyers on the message boards at work or at busy places where lots of people walk by every day. Even the simpliest handwritten note can be very effective. Here are a few sample flyers that you can print out and use to promote DonateToDogs.org. Please be considerate and only post at appropiate places.
  • Spay or neuter your dog.
  • Add a link to this page from your website, Facebook profile, or other social networking account: it will generate more traffic to this page and get more donations to help animals.
  • If you have other online or offline resources, you can publish an article about this site in a newspaper/newsletter, use it as a subject of an essay, mention it on the radio, put a note up at the front desk of your business, etc.
